DIY Bulk Chicken Feeder
It is key to maximize efficiency when running a homestead. Simple projects can ease the effort and time of caring for so many animals. I built this high-capacity pellet feeder with a galvanized pale and pvc pipe. I went from refilling our chicken feed every day or two to once every 2-3 weeks. The food is refilled in the pale above and gravity feeds through a hole into the pipe below, splitting at the bottom into a pvc tee. I've seen as many as 6 chickens eating at once. We don't have too bad of a rodent problem - so we can keep it open all the time. I've actually seen one of our bigger chickens eating a mouse - so they don't stand much of a chance. A great aspect of the pipe design is that even if the pale is empty, there is still a day or two of feed left in the pipe, giving me time to get more food from Tractor Supply. This has been in use for about 2 years with no issues. The pipe is connected to the pale with a toilet flange. I got the idea off pinterest.
